Martin Luther letter, [ca. 1522].

Contemporary manuscript copy of a letter from Luther to an unidentified nobleman, written out in 16th-century script. The text is prefaced by a brief prayer to Jesus: "Jhesuss: Bringt uns Fride, von Got unserem Vater und unserem Herren Jhesu Christo, Amen. Und meynn unterthenig Dienst [?]." The name of the letter's intended recipient is written at the end, but not legibly ("Herrzog Friderich zu ..., Khurfurstenn ..."). A note by George Lincoln Burr on the front pastedown describes the manuscript and how it was acquired.
